The Saint Clement Lady Anchors captured their fifth win of the season with a dramatic 7th inning win over Pope John 16-15 on Sunday, May 20, to bring their Catholic Central League record to 3-5 and overall record to 5-10.

Junior Allison Caloggero (Medford) pitched four solid innings, striking out four, walking two and giving up only two earned runs. St. Clement exploded offensively gathering 14 runs. Jessica Popken (Medford) walked three times and scored two runs. Caloggero knocked in 3 RBIs with a triple and a single and scored 3 runs. Kayla Morello (Medford) pitched in with 3 RBIs of her own with 2 clutch singles and scored 3 runs.

In the 5th inning Pope John lead off with a triple by Olivia McNelis and a double by Victoria Bercume. Pope John followed up with a walk, a costly dropped third strike and single, allowing them to inch their way closer to the lead making it 15-7 and holding the Lady Anchors to only one additional run.

Pope John again held St. Clements in the 6th inning and then erupted in the top of the 7th after stunning 1-6-3 St Clement double play to gather 4 runs and even the score to 15-15. With the game tied, Christina Puccio (Medford) lead off with a double and moved to third on a pass ball. Sophomore Tien Phan (Somerville) planted a perfect sacrifice bunt to score Puccio to win the game.

The Lady Anchors face league rivals Cathedral and Trinity Catholic to close their regular season.
