The 2012 Bay State Games were held July 9-13 at Bentley University and the Veterans Field Complex in Waltham. The softball and baseball competitions wrapped up on Friday July 13th. Somerville natives Jonathan Santana Arias (Somerville HS), Jennifer White (Somerville HS) and Courtney Casey (Arlington Catholic HS) represented the Metro teams.

The Metro baseball team fell out of medal contention loosing to Coastal 8-3 after tying the game at 3 in the top of the fifth. The Metro softball team captured the bronze medal despite a one-run lead in the first inning by the West team. The Metro defeated the West region by a score of 5-2.

The Bay State Games are an Olympic style athletic event for some of the best amateur athletes in Massachusetts. The Games have over 25 sports and are made up of divisional teams from different regions of the state. More than 30,000 people from 300 cities and towns participate in its programs each year.
