The Saint Clement football team improved to 2-0 by defeating Old Colony High School 43-20 on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first quarter, Junior Deron Hines (Chelsea) opened a lead for the boys with an eight yard run touchdown in the second quarter. After Old Colony scored, Junior Nick Codair (Stoneham) put the Anchors back on top with a seventy-eight yard kick return. Shortly after gaining the ball back, Senior Captain Jamey Thompson (Everett) gave the ball to Senior Jesus Gambaro (Charlestown) for a five yard run into the end zone.

After half time, St. Clement kept increasing their lead with an eighty-one yard punt return by Junior Junior Oyaronbi (Revere). In the fourth quarter, Thompson found fellow Senior Captain John Posada (Charlestown) for an Anchorman touchdown. Gambaro had a forty-three yard run for a touchdown to seal the win. After each touchdown, Senior kicker Andrew Carvalho (Somerville) added to the win with five extra point field goals.

Head Coach Colin Walsh and the Anchormen will host Mystic Valley Regional Charter School at 7 p.m. on Friday night at their home field, Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.



The 2012 season for the Saint Clement Lady Anchors Volleyball team is off to a great start. The team currently holds a 3 and 2 record after defeating league rival Pope John of Everett and St. Joseph’s Academy of Brighton.

The Lady Anchors swept Pope John of Everett three games to none in the Anchordome on Tuesday. Senior Co-Captain Kristina Ofoedu (Methuen) was her CCL All Star self. Ofoedu lead the ladies to victory with seven crushing kills and five solid blocks. Stepping up big for the Lady Anchors, Senior Co-Captian Camilla Souza (Everett) supplied the team with seven kills and two blocks. Souza stepped up big this year by filling the middle hitter position.

On Thursday, the girls traveled to Brighton, where they swept St. Joseph’s Academy three games to none. Ofoedu supplied fifteen service points, eleven spectacular kills and five unstoppable blocks. Senior Captain, Allison Caloggero (Medford) helped out to the Lady Anchor’s win with sixteen big service points, nine of them aces and seven digs. Freshman Katie Monestime (Somerville), gave the ladies a cushion with five kills on the net and five digs in the back.

The Saint Clement looks to improve their record this week by hosting Cristo Rey High School, Saint Mary’s of Lynn and Boston International on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Last year the team ended their regular season with a 15 and 5 record and made it to the semi-finals last year in the State Tournament. With almost all the girls returning, Coach Lisa Regione and the team look to exceed their success last year.



The Lady Anchors started off their season with a 1 and 3 record. Experiencing tough loses against Mystic Valley Charter School, Marian High School, and Lowell Catholic High School. Things turned around for the Lady Anchors on Sunday against Cristo Rey Boston. The girls earned their first win of the season with a total team effort. Sophomore Taisha Dupre (Everett) led the way for the Lady Anchors by scoring two big goals. Senior Maria Martinez (Medford) also added a goal in the win. Sophomore Ivy Nguyen (Medford) recorded her first shutout of the season with a stellar performance in the net. The Lady Anchors remain positive and are looking to build on this victory as they prepare to play Mount St. Joseph’s Academy and Mystic Valley Charter School this coming week.
