Police responded to the Marshalls on McGrath Hwy. last week on a report of a suspected shoplifter being detained there by the store’s loss prevention personnel.

In questioning the store staff, it was reported that a woman, Claudia Depaula, 19, was spotted putting items into a bag and attempting to leave the store, accompanied by a female companion, without paying for the merchandise.

Store personnel intercepted Depaula in the parking lot area and asked her to return to the store for questioning about the items that she had reportedly taken, according to reports. Her companion reportedly fled the scene without being apprehended.

The bag that Depaula used, which was also store property, contained Marshalls merchandise reportedly valued at over $300, police said.

Police placed Depaula under arrest. She has been charged with larceny over $250.
