Santano Dessin, 33, of Somerville, was arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court on charges of armed assault to murder, mayhem, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. Clerk Magistrate Michael Sullivan held the defendant pending a 58A dangerousness hearing.
The defendant’s next scheduled court date is February 13 for the 58A hearing.
According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on November 11, 2012 Somerville police responded to 196 Broadway for a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers found a 28-year-old male victim, evidencing a gunshot wound to the neck. He was transported to Mass General Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he currently remains in serious condition, with a bullet lodged in his neck.
Somerville Police and State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office launched an immediate investigation into the circumstances of the shooting. It is alleged that the defendant shot the victim following a verbal argument.
These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Chris Tarrant. The Victim Witness Advocates are Susie Marshall and Nadia Guevara.
