After a summer of drug busts in Davis Square’s busy center plaza, the neighborhood aldermen is wondering if the area saw a surge in crime.
Ward 6 Alderman Rebekah Gewirtz submitted an order at Thursday’s meeting asking Acting Chief Mike Cabral to provide aldermen with an update on trouble in the square and a comparison of last year’s criminal activity to this year.
In July, police made three drug arrests in the square, seizing heroin and crack cocaine. In each case, their investigations started in Statue Park.
Yes “Bekah” there has been a surge in crime. Hundreds, possibly thousands of citizens ripped off by fines created by extended parking meter hours. [werent you part of creating this action?] Businesses in the red or possibly closed because of this wrongful action….”Bekah” it would look better if you just turned yourself in.
Liberals like “Bekah” are gutless little rats who are ashamed of who and what they are. Conservatives get elected by stating who they are, what they believe, and following through on it. They lose elections when they get away from their core. Liberals win elections by denying who they are and hiding behind phony words like “progressive.”
“Bekah” approved the raising of all the fines and fees. She needs to be honest with the citizens of Somerville. Of course, if she did this, she would not be a liberal. She knows the people are against them on this and so many other issues. From a individual who hates anything related to the military, she sure know how to wear camouflage.
Haven’t you done enough to hind the progress of Davis Square. Stop trying to make it something that its not! On one hand “Bekah” wants to “play liberal” with these criminals, on the other hand she wants to start crunching numbers and figures to figure out if their really is a problem! Take your head outa of the soup dish and look around! It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that theirs a bunch of criminals lerking around statue park!
“The basic nature of God’s Justice: GALATIANS 6: 7-9 (KJV) 7: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
I believe she was one of the only alderwoman that at least put up a fight to stop the extended hours etc.. stating that it would hurt the business owners. Basically it is her against the Mayor and the rest of his alderman, who basically do what he tells them.
If you’re grousing about parking meter hours in the comments section of an article about crime stats in Davis Square … you just may be a crackpot.
Has anyone noticed that the majority of serious offenders busted in Somerville are from outside the city? Especially the drug dealers in Davis.
I can’t figure out if that’s a good or bad thing….At least they go home at night.
Also, to people railing about fines and fees as if someone just killed their dog – I assume you don’t own property? Because that’s one other way to balance the budget and one we can’t avoid paying. Distasteful, sure – any imposition into liberty is.
But on the scale of things it hardly merits your “outraged populist bingo” of buzzwords and religious incantations. Invoking the Lord Almighty in discussing parking fines and some degenerates slinging dope, really?
ps – Booga booga
Hey Connelly…where do you get off always being so arrogant ? It’s getting old.
Had enough? if not keep electing these self centered progressives and won’t be long before unemployment rises over 10%. Vote all incumbents out of office and start over, get rid of the fees/taxes and bs. Ask yourself if your better off now then before these Progressives took over congress , state house and city hall. Start on November 2nd by voting against anyone who is an incumbent, no matter who they are. Just to bad Capuano doesn’t have a challanger, still vote blank send him back to see his girl friend Pelosi the Facist go down in defeat. Vote against Denise, Carl and Pat as well, send a clear message that one party rule is bad.
Drugs, Dealers, and Addicts by Day…. Alcohol, Alcoholics, and Bar Owners by night… that the new Davis Square… Actually its the old Davis Square too…. just has lipstick on it now.
Somerville has had their head in the sand for so long regarding the drug problem here. Now they finally open their eyes and wonder when and how this happened. Look at the crime statistics for assault, disorderly conduct, etc. Look at all the stolen bicycles, ipods, GPS systems, etc. Look at the growing homeless population. Most of this can be attributed to the drug problem. And for the person who said that at least out of town drug dealers go home at night, please tell me you’re not serious. That’s when they do their best business. And the reason they’re here in the first place is the huge customer base they have here.
How about getting rid of the drug dealer that sells on the corner of endicott and hooker ave? I know its not davis sq, but neighborhoods shouldnt have to put up with the dealers either.
What the hell? This article is about crime in Davis Square, and the comments section is filled with people crying about parking meters, and the mean-spirited Tea Bagger talking points. What a bunch of crackpots.
I am somewhat confused about the fact that the ward six alderwomen finds it necessary to review the recent crime stats before she is willing to classify “Davis Square” as a HOT SPOT! The concentrations of incidents in Davis Square have increased. I hope that your not going to hide behind the fuzzy math that the city is going to produce you. Take a look around the square and ask yourself if something looks different! By the time your done cruntching numbers, another drug deal or bike will be stolen! We need more strategic survaillance in Davis, not just uniforms.
