Thayrone Miranda is only a freshman, but he's managed to lead the Somerville High Boys Soccer team to an impressive season ending run.

Not long ago, the Somerville boys soccer team suffered a heartbreaking loss to Madison Park High School.

As a monsoon wreaked havoc among the region, another of some sorts occurred on the Madison Park Turf Field in Monday afternoon’s Division 1 North Quarterfinal match.

Led by a balanced attack of Homero Morais, Kevin Montiel and Thayrone Miranda, the Highlanders shocked the No.1 seeded Cardinals in a 3-1 victory.

“We had about 80 percent of the scoring out of the lineup when we faced them during the season,” said coach George Scarpelli. “We feel like we’re peaking at the right time and our offense has come into high gear. We have a lot of offensive punch, and we feel like we can compete with anyone with the way we’re playing right now.”

After both teams battled in the early going, the Highlanders struck first for the 1-0 lead before the Cardinals rallied to even the score.

In the second half, the Highlanders secured the win with a pair of second half goals.

Offensively, Montiel, Morais and Miranda guided the offense, with each recording either a goal or an assist while goalkeeper Bruno Souza fared solid, stopping five shots en route to the win.
