(Statement from Detective Mario Oliveira, read by Acting Somerville Police Chief Michael Cabral at  Mass General Hospital earlier today)

Before I begin, I would like to pay my respect to the Krister family and offer my condolence for the loss of their son.  Their family as well as my family, has been forever affected from this tragic incident.

The purpose of my statement is to offer my thanks, please bear with me as there are a lot of people I need to thank, especially Doctor King and the medical staff at Massachusetts General Hospital. I will not talk about the incident, nor will I be able to answer any questions until the District Attorney’s Office has completed its investigation.

First, I want to thank my wife Kristy; who has been by my side night and day-I LOVE YOU.

I thank my immediate family especially my mother, father and brothers and other family members.  To my brother and sister officers from the Somerville Police Department, and the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), thank you for your support and prayers. Especially those police officers and ATF agents who stayed with me and guarded my room since the minute I entered the hospital and are here with me today to take me home. I also want to thank Mayor Curtatone and my police Chief Michael Cabral; for being here everyday for me and my family.

I want to thank all of the police officers; from the Massachusetts State Police, FBI, local, university and housing officers who came to the hospital the night of the shooting, came to visit me, sent cards or called to show their support. I especially want to thank Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, and the Boston Police Department for their assistance and support for me and other members of my department

I have received phone calls and visits from dignitaries such as Governor Deval Patrick, the United States Attorney General Eric Holder,  Police Chiefs, Somerville Board of Aldermen,  the ATF Special Agent in Charge Guy Thomas, ATF representatives from Boston to Washington, D.C,. and get well wishes from school children and the Somerville community.

In closing, I thank the Somerville Police Officers, ATF agent, Somerville Firefighters and Cataldo Ambulance  who took immediate action and saved my life.  I also want to thank the media for your support and coverage and ask that you respect my privacy and that of my family as I go home to recover from my injuries.
