Over 125 Somerville seniors enjoyed a fun filled day at the Council on Aging’s Annual Christmas Party that was hosted and sponsored by the Winter Hill Yacht Club in Somerville.

WHYC Commodore Bill Rogers,  Registrar Gene Brune, Alderman Bruce Desmond, Maria Curtatone and Council on Aging Director Cindy Hickey, along with WHYC volunteers, prepared the food and served the scrumptious Christmas meal to the festive crowd.

Santa Clause in his big red suit, who was played by Jim Henry from Senator Sal Didomenico’s office, was also in the building making his rounds while Mayor Joseph Curtatone, Middlesex Registrar of Deeds Gene Brune and Senator Patricia Jehlen, along with the help of State Representative Carl Sciortino, Aldermen Dennis Sullivan and Bill White, led the crowd into an assortment of Christmas Carols and dancing that had everyone singing for hours.

Commodore Bill Rogers also announced that the yacht club would be sponsoring a “Valentines Party” and a “Christmas in July” event for the seniors this coming summer as well.

This past summer the WHYC, in conjunction with Mayor Curtatone and the Somerville Council on Aging, also sponsored a “Veteran’s Cruise” that gave over a hundred disabled veterans the opportunity to enjoy themselves cruising Boston harbor along with an old fashion barbecue.
