Confined space rescue drill

On August 22, members of the Somerville Fire Department conducted a joint confined space rescue drill with members of Mass Bay Commuter Rail (MBCR) at their maintenance facility located at 70R Third Avenue.

The drill involved removing an unconscious “victim” from a tunnel located fifteen feet below grade beneath the locomotive repair area. Somerville firefighters and MBCR employees worked together to extricate the victim from the confined space. Thanks to the assistance of MBCR, a realistic training scenario was provided to members of the Somerville Fire Department enabling them to improve upon their technical rescue skills.
