We’re very sad to report that George A. Manzelli Jr. of the Ville passed away recently. He will be waked Wednesday, 4 to 8 p.m. from the Cota Funeral Home located at 335 Park Street Reading, corner of Park and Rt. 28. George was a great guy, made a lot of friends and had one of those likable personalities that he showed when he met you. He liked everyone. Some of us went on trips with him to Ireland and remember the good times. Our sincere condolences go out to his family and his many friends who will miss him deeply. Services for George will be Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church in Reading.

Labor Day has come and gone, we’re now officially back to school, and some of us have closed our up North or Cape homes and are headed back for the grind of September.   We hope everyone had a great time.

Happy Birthday this week to several of our friends here at The News. First of all, Chris Siggens is celebrating this week, along with our favorite waitress here in Somerville, Patty Oppedisano, who works very hard at being who she is and we certainly wish her the best of times this week (leave a bigger tip for her this week as well). Our good friend Mike Tubinis is celebrating this week as he enters another year of teaching over in Cambridge. A nice guy! Former Alderman at Large and great lady, Grace Aburzzio, looks younger every year and is always a classy lady. We wish her a Happy Birthday as well. Our good friend and sister of our late publisher, Marilyn Publicover, is out in sunny Arizona celebrating this week. We can’t forget about that very nice lady about town involved heavily with the city, Nancy Gaudet-Bacci, who also looks younger every year. We wish her nothing but the best. Coming up at the end of this week is Judy Medeiros, who has a strong family background here in the Ville and every year she has a fundraiser in memory of her late Brother Edmund. Happy Birthday to a great lady!
