In honor of the victims of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone will lead a candlelight vigil with Somerville police and firefighters along the Community Path in Somerville this Saturday evening.

Those interested in taking part in the vigil should gather at the Cedar St. entrance of the Community Path at 6:30. Candles will be provided to all attendees. The procession then will depart at 6:45 and walk to Davis Square, where a ceremony will be held at Somerville’s 9/11 Memorial, located at the center island in the square opposite Mike’s Restaurant.

“Nine years ago we witnessed some of the greatest tragedy along with some of the greatest heroism in American history,” Mayor Curtatone said. “We hold this vigil to pay tribute to the thousands who lost their lives on that day.”

Bagpiper Patrick McDonnell will lead the procession. Honor guards from both Somerville police and firefighters will take part. Father Thomas Corcoran from St. Catherine’s and St Ann’s parishes will offer an invocation and benediction at the memorial.
