The Bloc 11 Café’s Year of Music Anniversary special will be held on December 1 from 6:30 p.m. to midnight.

The café “will pull out all stops” by “flaunting a new sound system,” as well as have a cash bar, at which wine and beer will be available.  Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Bloc 11’s catering branch.

Moreover, that night, rock out at the following artists’ performances: One Happy Island, Kristen Ford Band, Audrey Ryan, Kevin Byrne, Charlie Cover, Colin Kelly  and Abbie Barrett.

Although the café has been in business for three years, since December 2009, it has been a spot at which free live music on Wednesday nights and open mic on Thursdays have been a staple.

“After I’d been working here a few months, as a barista, I suggested that they start doing live music to increase business,” said Kristen Ford, Music Director of Bloc 11 Café.

However, “The atmosphere is really special.  It was built inside an old bank, so they left some of the safety deposit boxes and the vaults intact.”

“You can eat your lunch in a bank vault if you’d like,” she said.

Further, Bloc 11 has become known for its friendly atmosphere and tasty food, rounded out by incredible lattes. However, its having gripping live music may be lesser known.

Previously, the venue has hosted such noteworthy acts as David Wax Museum, who is of Newport Folk festival fame, Gifrant’s five-piece, Haitian-inspired jazz band and several performances by Boston’s goth-cabaret band, Jaggery.

In more depth, Kristen Ford Band treats attendees to rock and reggae.

One Happy Island will crank out ukulele-inspired Twee-pop, while Audrey Ryan will become “a one-woman music machine.”

Admission to the event is $8, and interested individuals may visit www.bloc11.com or call the venue, which is located at 11 Bow St., at (617) 623-0000.
